Our history
Portumna Camogie Club has grown from humble beginnings, having been reformed in 1994.
Initially, the club fielded teams only at the Under 14 and Under 16 levels. It took time to expand across all age groups, but this persistence paid off when the club was finally able to compete at adult level, making its mark by winning the Junior B Championship title in 2001.
The club’s journey has been one of steady progress, with notable achievements along the way.
A major highlight was the Intermediate Championship victory in 2013, a testament to the club’s determination and growth. Other significant honours include the Junior B County and Connacht titles, both won in 2022, further showcasing the club’s strength at adult level.
In recent years, there has been a surge in player numbers, particularly at juvenile levels, which reflects the club’s commitment to youth development. On the competitive front, our juvenile teams have not only competed but thrived, claiming victories in high-level competitions, ensuring a bright future for Portumna Camogie.
One of the club’s proudest achievements is seeing our players represent the county at various levels, a reflection of the immense talent within our small but vibrant community.
With teams now ranging from Under-6 to adult level, Portumna Camogie Club continues to be a shining example of success and community spirit in the heart of East Galway.
