‘Blueway 10K’ fundraiser gains momentum for Portumna GAA and Camogie clubs

The Blueway 10K has raised €85,000 since April.

The Blueway 10K fundraiser is in full swing, uniting Portumna GAA Club and Portumna Camogie Club in a powerful joint effort to raise funds for the ongoing sports facilities development in Portumna.

Scheduled for 2 June 2025, the Blueway 10K has already attracted over 80 enthusiastic participants. Each runner is actively fundraising through the Fundmajor platform, gathering generous donations from friends, family, and community supporters.

The aim of the fundraiser

All funds raised will directly support Phase 2 of the Portumna GAA facilities development. Planned improvements include the completion of the spectator fence and walkway around the main pitch, new dugouts, a digital scoreboard, floodlights for the juvenile pitch and a new diesel generator.

“This fundraiser truly highlights how our clubs and community come together to support one another,” said Shane O’Rourke, Chairperson of Portumna GAA Club. “The funds raised will not only enhance our facilities but also ensure we continue providing top opportunities for our players and supporters.”

How it’s being done

Participants continue to gather sponsorships using WhatsApp and text messages, with donations flowing into their individual fundraising pages. Every contribution moves the clubs closer to their shared goal.

In addition to individual efforts, the clubs have secured sponsorships from local businesses and corporate partners.

“We’re incredibly grateful for the support of local businesses,” said Shane Madden, Chairperson of Portumna Camogie Club. “Their backing helps our clubs thrive, and we’re excited to welcome even more partnerships.”

All about the route

The 10K route begins at the Portumna GAA Clubhouse, following the newly developed Blueway walkway along Lough Derg. It continues through the scenic Portumna Forest Park, making it one of the most beautiful community fundraising events in the region.

Steady progress is being made

Since launching the fundraiser on 5 April 2025, the clubs have already raised over €85,000 towards their €120,000 goal.

“This is a pivotal moment for our clubs,” added O’Rourke. “The incredible support from members, families, local businesses, and the broader community reflects how deeply we all value our clubs and the role they play. We’re excited about the future and what we can accomplish together.”

The Finance Committee remains optimistic and deeply appreciative of the overwhelming support. With continued momentum, both clubs are confident they’ll reach the target in the coming weeks.
